Residents and visitors to Ranfurly, Omakau and Ophir must boil water, until further notice due to elevated turbidity in the supply.

The considerable amount of snowmelt entering the water ways is affecting turbidity and therefore water quality, with the treatment plant unable to continue to produce compliant clean water.

A Conserve Water Notice put in place earlier this week was lifted temporarily when water quality appeared to improve, but that improvement was not sustained.

The tanker at Maniototo Area School has been redirected to Omakau, however, Ranfurly will still have two tankers remaining, at the Maniototo Hospital and near the Charlemont Street monument.

Residents should boil all water used for drinking, food preparation, cooking and cleaning their teeth. Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute, then allow it to cool naturally before use.

Council will lift the boil water notice once conditions improve.
