There is good news in store from the weather forecasters ahead of this weekend’s Alexandra Blossom Festival.

MetService meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane said the bulk of the weekend has some “pleasant” weather in store.

However, she said the day to look out for would be Friday.

“On Thursday a weather system moves across, bringing rain and possible snow to surrounding hills. By Friday there may still be a few passing showers. Additionally, the temperatures are looking to be the coldest of the weekend with the afternoon only going up to around 11 degrees Celsius, and a chilly southwesterly breeze.”

As a result, people should wrap up warm for the Round the Clock Race and Mardi Gras on Friday evening.

As the weekend progresses festival-goers can look forward to warmer temperatures as they prepare to enjoy everything on offer, including the Grand Parade along the streets of Alexandra, National Gold Panning Championships and the always popular Party in the Park, which all takes place on Saturday.

The forecast also looks good for the Delta Garden Tour, which takes place on Sunday.

“Saturday and Sunday boast mostly blue skies, maybe a few clouds floating past on Saturday and temperatures in the mid-teens,” Mmathapelo said.

“Sunday looks to be the warmest day of the weekend with an afternoon temperature of around 18°C. That said, the mornings will be chilly, with some possible early cloud that breaks up after a few hours of sunshine, so best to wrap up warm with layers that can be easily removed later.”
