Power has been restored to all Central residents affected by a widespread unplanned outage earlier this morning.
Residents in Clyde, Alexandra, Teviot Valley and the Maniototo now have power.
Aurora Energy general manager operations and network performance Matt Settle said the widespread outage impacted almost 8000 customers across the Central Otago network region, extending from Clyde to Ettrick and Lauder Flat.
He said there are two main power lines that feed into those areas from the Clyde Grid Exit Point, where power is taken from the national electricity grid.
One of those was out of service for planned maintenance at the request of Transpower.
“The second line tripped and this caused the unplanned outage to the region.”
Fault response crews patrolled the lines, but could not identify any specific damage.
Customers were progressively returned to service throughout the morning.
“Our fault crews are continuing to investigate this so we can identify any intermittent issues that may have been involved and resolve them,” he said.
“We apologise to all customers who experienced a power outage and thank them for their patience while we worked to restore power.”
