Patearoa drinking water to be turned offThe drinking water supply line to Patearoa will be shut down as a precautionary measure due to flooding.

The Central Otago District Council (CODC) will shut down the Patearoa drinking water supply line as a precautionary measure.

A CODC spokesperson says the Patearoa township bridge approach has been damaged by the wild weather and rising flood levels.

“The bridge also carries the town water supply line and we have no way of knowing if this line is compromised once we lose the bridge approach,” the CODC statement says.

“As a precautionary measure the line will be shut down to prevent the draining of the water reservoirs in the event that the line is compromised.

“The properties on the McSkimming Road side of the yellow line on this aerial photo (above) need to make precautions as soon as possible to bottle some water for use prior to the line being compromised/turned off.

“If you see this and can get a message to any of these properties that would be most appreciated.

“Our teams are working to secure a drinking water tanker for use and will keep you posted on this.”
