Parts of Clyde are without water following an emergency shut down this afternoon.

The Central Otago District Council (CODC) made the announcement about 2pm, stating a "significant leak" on a water main in Sunderland St meant it had to be shutdown to be repaired.

A contractor is working on the repair, with the aim of having water back on "before dinner time".

A CODC spokesperson apologised for any inconvenience.
