Tourism Central Otago: Destination Advisory Board

Tourism Central Otago (TCO) is a department of Central Otago District Council charged with managing Central Otago as a visitor destination.

In 2022 TCO released its Destination Management Plan which, based on a 50-year vision for the region, and is built on community aspirations for their place.

Strongly grounded in Central Otago’s ‘A World of Difference’ regional identity and the values of Kai Tahu, the destination management plan is built on an ambition that:

“When visitors experience our world, sharing a moment with our people and our places, they become an extension of our community - loyal advocates and believers in our causes and our dreams for generations to come. We know this as whanaukataka - or kinship - and we believe that it is by creating this strong sense of connection and common purpose that tourism can make a lasting difference.”

Central Otago District Council (CODC) is now seeking to appoint a Rakatahi Youth Intern role to the Destination Advisory Board.

The intern role is for a 12-month term (up to 5 meetings) and ideally suits a student moving into Year 13 in 2024, online attendance via Meeting link is possible if travel is an issue, or if student is not attending a local high school.

The purpose of the Destination Advisory board is to provide support and guidance to the TCO team as they implement the Destination Management Plan.

Along with a genuine passion for Central Otago, we are looking for a young leader with an interest in developing their knowledge in destination management, community, tourism, product development and marketing.

The Central Otago Destination Management Plan is available to read here.

If you are interested please submit a cover letter outlining what interests you in the role(s) and summarising the skills that you would bring to the Advisory Board along with a brief cv that highlights any relevant experience or knowledge.

Appointments will be made in December 2023 for a term commencing in early 2024.
