As Central residents prepare to take their decorations down, the team at The Central App wants to take one last opportunity to celebrate the festive season that was.

This year we launched the inaugural Aurora Energy Light Up Central campaign, an initiative that was supported by Tall Poppy, to provide a trail of addresses where Christmas displays could be viewed.

The initiative was also supported by our many readers, from all corners of the district, who either shared their display with the community by registering their address, or voted for their favourite one.

Central App owner/director Vicki McLean was impressed by the number of people who took part and the effort so many people in our community goes to for the benefit of others.

The homes with the most votes have gone on to win one of three prizes - a $1000 home improvement from Central Interiors, one night’s accommodation for two with breakfast at Harvest Hotel and a movie night for the recipient and up to 20 family and friends at Central Cinema Alexandra.

This year those winners are:

  • 17 Dunstan St, Clyde, who have won a $1000 voucher from Central Interiors.
  • 49 John St, Ranfurly, who have won one night’s accommodation for two with breakfast at the newly renovated Harvest Hotel.
  • 7 Briar Cr, Alexandra, who have won a movie night for themselves and 20 friends and family at Central Cinema Alexandra.

Vicki said the ultimate aim was to provide something fun for people across Central to do over the festive season, and the result shows it achieved just that.

“All of these homes got votes and put smiles on the faces of so many people across a large part of Central. Thanks to everyone who participated and for making Central Otago a festive place to be. We appreciate everyone who took part.”

She said the event would return at the end of the year, so anyone who wanted to take part should lock it in their diaries.
