Cromwell woman arrested at police stationCromwell police didn't have to go far to arrest a woman last week for failing to appear in court.

An inquiry made by a woman at the Cromwell police station was her own downfall, resulting in her arrest on Sunday, August 4, for failing to appear in court.

The 36-year-old Cromwell woman visited the police station to ask questions about a trespass notice.

Police advised her there was a warrant for her arrest for failing to appear in court and she was subsequently arrested at the station and taken to Queenstown where she spent the night.

Snr Const Perkins said the woman didn’t want to stay overnight in Queenstown.

“She went to court on Monday and now has stricter bail conditions.”

The same day a driving complaint was called in about a vehicle overtaking at speed, on double yellow lines, on a blind corner near Ettrick, travelling towards Alexandra.

Snr Const Perkins said the Omakau police unit located the driver, a 23-year-old man, who was from the area, and impounded his vehicle due to the nature of his driving.

“He was spoken to and will be summoned on dangerous driving.”

In more driving incidents, Central police issued 12 tickets on August 3 on State Highway 8 between Cromwell and the Lindis Pass.

The highest speed recorded was 129km per hour, and motorists ticketed were a mixture of New Zealanders and overseas drivers.

Looking forward to this weekend, Snr Const Perkins was aware of the Dunstan High School Formal and its organised after party.

“Generally we have no problems with this . . . it’s been problem free in recent years.

“We like it because everybody gets into it with the older cars, and they get the rides in, we get friends of family with the police car . . . and Sergeant Darren with the V8 takes the kids out, it’s something the girls get dressed up for and the boys finally put on decent clothes.”

The weekly police update will take a break next week and return after August 19.
