An arrow shot into a garage door and another door opened at an unoccupied house on Brandon St, has local police appealing to the public for help.

Senior Constable Graham Perkins said police would like to hear from anyone with any information about the arrow found on August 4.

“People looking after the house have located it. It seems a bit strange that an arrow has been fired against a wall, so we’d appreciate [any information].”

Wānaka and Cromwell police received a request for a tow out from a couple of people as their four-by-four vehicle got stuck on a farm track at Hill End Station on Sunday.

Snr Const Perkins said the driver was a local and had no authority to be there.

“They were very lucky, they slid off a track and got stuck . . . lucky not to go over the edge after becoming bluffed.

“The farmer used his tractor to tow them out.

“The two occupants have paid a gratuity to the farmer for assisting them and getting them [out].”

Snr Const Perkins said the track has photo opportunities of frost and snow rivalling Roys Peak and is “trending on Tik Tok” resulting in strange vehicles going onto farm property without permission.

“If you don’t have permission to go there please stay away, or obtain permission and make sure you’ve got suitable equipment if you do get stuck, that you can self rescue, or people know where you are, or travel in tandem.”

In another incident, a suspicious vehicle in Clutha St was reported to police as it appeared to be abandoned, possibly lived in and was blocking a gate.

Police enquiries are ongoing with the last registered owner as to who it was on-sold to.

“If people do see vehicles that appear to be lived in, or being camped in, just let us know where it is and we actually can keep an eye on it, or report it to [Central Otago District Council].

“The longer [abandoned vehicles] are left there the more likelihood of damage . . . they get ransacked. If you’ve got something of value, look after it.”

Police are also still investigating a disorder incident on Tarbert St outside The Finery on July 27.

Snr Const Perkins said police are reviewing CCTV footage and were looking at venue checks to make sure places are being run properly.

“We’ve got a mixture of the rugby boys and the shearers that are coming in for pre lamb [shearing] underway.

"A whole lot of new people in town are causing us a few problems.

“We’re finding the same group is turning up at different places and . . . we’re coming down harder on them.

“The stuff they could get away with up north, they’re not getting away with down here, we’re holding them accountable.”

Snr Const Perkins said police needed licensed premises to be on board as well.
