The sale of Matangi Station above Alexandra is getting closer, with the vendors entering into a conditional sale and purchase agreement with a buyer.


A Mountain Bikers of Alexandra (MOA) facebook post on Thursday updated followers. The post read:


“[W]e have been advised that Matangi Station has entered into a conditional sale and purchase agreement with a buyer. The subcommittee will continue to explore options for securing public access to this special place.”



MOA president Andrew Dowling said the club was respecting due process.


“We don’t know who the buyer is. It is confidential information . . . and there is a correct process to follow.


“We are being respectful, and considerate . . . the prospective buyer may still have things to work through.”



He said when the time is right appropriate contact and talks could be held.


After agreement is reached between a purchaser and a vendor, permission also needs to be given from the Commissioner of Crown Lands for the sale to go ahead. 


As with any other property sale, the sale and purchase agreement for Matangi may include other conditions be fulfilled such as a land survey or check of title, building report, finance etc.

Since December the subcommittee has been working on possible ways to secure the future of the mountain bike park.



Matangi Station has been owned by the Sanders family for over 100 years and there have been concerns within the wider mountain bike community that the Matangi MTB park might be lost in the sale.
