If you are on your own tonight or on Christmas Day there are free community meals happening in Cromwell and Alexandra.

Cromwell’s Church Untamed is holding a community Christmas Eve barbecue at 5pm on Sunday December 24 in the Cromwell College Auditorium.

Church leader Tim Muller said this was the first time they’ve had a Christmas eve event like this.

“It’s all ages… everyone is welcome. We have noticed there was a bit of a gap for younger people who need connection at this time of year [too].”

The barbecue will go for about an hour, an event that will include carols, accompanied by guitar.

There was no need to register and there will be plenty of food for everyone, including vegetarian and gluten free options.

In Alexandra on Christmas Day, the Alexandra Clyde Lauder Union Parish is having a community barbecue lunch at St Enoch’s church.

Previous lunches have attracted a range of people. Some are locals without family nearby; others are overseas workers on holiday visas spending Christmas a long way from home.

In previous years about 100 people have attended.

For more information see Church Untamed on Facebook, or the event page for the St Enoch’s Alexandra luncheon here.
