Two new police have started working in Alexandra this week, bringing the number of frontline officers up to seven, just in time for Christmas.

Constable Scott Vollweiler is originally from Milton and started his career in Gore, followed by Christchurch and Rangiora where he spent eight years.

All of his family are based in the Otago region, including a brother in Wanaka, and he was looking forward to getting back to his roots in the south.

Based in Cromwell and with two young children (5 and 7), he also enjoys tramping and skiing in his spare time, and was focused on proactive community policing.

“It’s good getting out there and meeting people from different walks of life. It’s just a brilliant place to work and live in Central Otago,” he said.

Constable Henry Caccia-Birch also started this week, and has rejoined the police force after a break, where he worked in Tauranga and was involved in fitness instructing.

Henry, formerly of Ranfurly, worked with youth in the town before becoming a police officer, and also enjoyed playing golf.

Senior Constable Graham Perkins said there was a bit of movement within the ranks, with one officer moving into roading, another becoming a rural sergeant and two more new officers starting in the new year - including a new sergeant position.
