Twenty-one Clyde School students braved the freezing waters of Lake Dunstan for their annual polar plunge yesterday.

It is a mid-winter tradition for the school’s year eight students initiated by former deputy principal and teacher Barb Lambeth.

This is the eleventh time Barb has taken the winter dip with students.

Barb, students, and their teacher and senior syndicate leader Sandra Rose faced a stiff easterly breeze by the Clyde Rowing Club but stripped down to their togs for the occasion.

The temperature outside was a chilly 3 degrees Celsius with sunshine and high cloud, but the promise of a hot chocolate and a hot chip lunch back at school motivated students.

Some students managed to stay in for a few seconds and others sprinted straight out back to their towels and warm clothes.

Cold water exposure provides health and wellbeing benefits, which are reputed to be feeling an enhanced mood, stress relief, decreased inflammation and a feeling of reinvigoration.
