Central Otago District Council has an opportunity for a Statutory Property Officer to join our Property and Facilities team on a full-time basis in Alexandra.

You will be responsible for the management of Council’s existing portfolio of commercial and community leases and licences and will receive and process applications for new leases and licences.


You will assist with applications for permissions, consents, and approvals over Council owned or administered land, with property acquisitions and disposals, and with the classification/reclassification, vesting, and revoking of reservations under the Reserves Act 1977.


As the successful applicant you will have:

  • A legal qualification such as a Legal Executive or other similar experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience in a property related field (local government experience would be an advantage but is not essential).
  • Experience drafting and reviewing lease and licence agreements and easement documents.
  • A strong knowledge of land tenure and status and be familiar with GIS systems.
  • The ability to read and interpret a wide range of legislation, policies, plans, and bylaws.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at various levels and will have proven relationship building experience.
  • Excellent administrative and record keeping skills, be well-organised and committed to providing excellent service.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including writing and presenting reports.
  • The ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and meet deadlines.
