Dog registration for the 2024-25 period has opened, bringing with it a change to the system.
Once the renewal notifications have been sent out, dog owners will be able to pay using the Central Otago District Council (CODC) website.
However, when dog owners go to register their dogs this year, they will notice a number of changes as the CODC has introduced a new registration system that replaces the previous ‘Reg the Dog’.
Some dog owners may have already noticed they are being redirected from the old system.
Details on how to create a new log-in/profile and how to pay can be found on the CODC's dog registration page.
Dog owners will also notice that registration fees have increased for non-working dogs, with the council setting fees and charges last Wednesday through the adoption of the 2024-25 Annual Plan.
Fees for non-working dogs have gone from $55 to $72, in line with increased costs to council across the board.
Working dog registration fees have remained the same at $12 per dog.
The criteria for working dogs can be found on the CODC's dog registration page.
Help is available from the Council's Customer Services team at the service centres to work through these steps.
Owners should also note that the council's bank account details for dog registration have changed, and that people will not be able to make payments over the phone.
If there is any difficulty paying the fee by July 31, 2024, owners should email: [email protected] to discuss payment options.
