Alexandra United Football Club (AUFC) is holding a ‘festival of football’ for youngsters at Molyneux Park on Sunday September 17.

The day involves a variety of fun skills stations, and small sided games including target shooting, foot golf and football musical chairs.

All Central boys and girls can attend (aged under six to under nine, or born in 2014-2017 inclusive); you do not need to have a club membership, and complete newcomers to football are welcome.

AUFC president Aaron Dykes said the club is growing quickly and the positive knock on effects of the FIFA Women’s World Cup were being felt.

“It’s great to have the support of parents with coaching, managing teams, running the canteen and putting on days like this.

“The festival is simply about having fun with football.”

Aaron said parent helpers were welcome for the day, as were enquiries from people interested in coaching, managing teams or refereeing next season.

The club had 170 players aged 17 and under in the 2023 season.

The festival costs $15 per player and runs from 10am -1pm. Soccer boots are not required, and participants need to bring a water bottle. Register here.

Women's football in Central is growing with a regular bunch of women (high school age and up) training on Wednesdays at 6pm in Alexandra and the Cromwell club is keen for new women to join.

The Linger and Die mountain bike enduro race is on September 17 too with 200 riders taking part. Racing starts at 10am at Matangi MTB park. Find out more here.
