Internationally acclaimed speaker and author Jake Bailey will share resilience strategies in Central in the lead up to Mental Health Awareness Week.

Jake is returning to New Zealand next week (September 13-15) for speaking events in Cromwell, Queenstown, and Wānaka.

Diagnosed with the most aggressive form of cancer in 2015 and given just weeks to live if it went untreated, Jake’s school prize-giving speech from a wheelchair went viral.

Now in remission and living overseas, Jake works full time on the psychology of resilience and has shared his strategies and research with more than 85,000 people, including corporations, organisations, and schools around the world.

“I'm privileged to have family in this incredible part of the world, and so it’s all the more special to be able to come back and engage with the local community.

“Over the past few years this region has faced, and continues to face, its fair share of adversity, and so it’s great to see people get behind this effort to provide people with practical tools and skills to help them overcome some of those challenges.”

Presented by Te Hau Toka Southern Lakes Wellbeing Group and supported by Central Lakes Trust, the free events are on prior to Mental Health Awareness Week 2023.

“It takes a community to keep a community well and we’re grateful for the support from the Central Lakes Trust to bring Jake to New Zealand,” Te Hau Toka acting chair Jo O’Connor said.

Te Hau Toka’s Central Lakes mental wellbeing navigator Ella Hitchcock will also share local and science-backed advice and take-home learnings on the five ways to wellbeing in our community.

The talk is on Thursday September 14, 5- 6:30pm, at the Cromwell Library. Book here.
