Winter is biting back in Central Old Man range overlooking Alexandra has a fresh sprinkling of snow on Monday morning

A much chillier start to Monday has reminded residents winter is still here.

Sleeting showers were on the cards for much of Central with temperatures in the low single digits.

Roads have been impacted and there are areas of snow and ice around the Maniototo and Manuherikia areas. Stay updated by checking the Roads report section.

Motorists have been asked to delay travel if possible in these two areas.

With the cold air pushing in from the south on Sunday it looks likely that temperatures will remain below 10°C until next week.

Day time highs of around 5-6°C with morning temperatures between -2°C and -6°C, some places will likely be cooler!

Despite the cold, winds remain on the light side and the sun might even make an appearance in the afternoons.

A couple showers might turn up on Thursday as another southerly pushes through the region. There’s another risk of a shower or two on Friday but it’s even less convincing.
