MetService have put in place a heavy snow warning for Central, Otago, Clutha and Southland.
A very cold south to southeast flow spreads north over the South Island today (Sunday), bringing snow to low levels to many areas of the South Island.
Heavy snow warnings and watches are in force for southern and eastern areas of the South Island.
The forecast is showing conditions worsening about 6pm tonight onwards, so for anyone planning on travelling from then on it would be recommended to leave earlier or delay travel, particularly at night.

Contract administrator for Fulton Hogan, Sarah Walker, says "Caution is advised in the Maniototo and Manuherikia areas as snow is currently falling and settling. Crews are out ploughing and gritting"
Forecast is for periods of heavy snow down to low levels. Snow amounts may approach warning criteria above 300 metres. Warning is valid from 9am until 6pm tonight. (Sunday 7th August)
People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts incase further watches and warnings are added.
