A day-long planned power outage for Clyde on Monday, August 19, was called off due to extremely cold weather that day, but a power outage is expected today (August 22).

Aurora Energy general manager service delivery Richard Starkey said the cancelled work is part of a bundled programme to replace six power poles, two cross arms and 1.8 km of power lines along Clyde’s Dunstan and Hazlett Streets.

“There are four planned power outages to carry out this work, including the cancelled outage on Monday, with different customer groups being impacted twice.

“The other outage dates are 22, 26 and 27 August, and at this stage they will proceed as planned.

“As part of [today’s] outage, we will need to turn off power briefly to some additional customers for around 15 minutes to enable the subsequent outages to take place, due to the work that could not take place on Monday.”

Richard said Aurora has advised electricity retailers of this and asked them to pass on the information to their customers.

“We will need to reschedule the planned outage originally scheduled for Monday and at this time we do not have a new date.”

In late July, Aurora wrote to households to advise of the work taking place and to explain it is part of Aurora Energy’s five-year work programme costing $560 million to upgrade the network, to improve the safety and reliability of the electricity supply.

On Aurora’s website there are other planned outages in August and September for Central towns including Cromwell, Tarras, Roxburgh and Alexandra.

Today's weather in Clyde is forecast by MetService to be cloudy, strong northerly winds in the morning and with isolated showers in the afternoon, a low of 3 degrees Celsius and a high of 14.
