Water restrictions for Patearoa, Naseby, Omakau, OphirA call to conserve water follows a drop in river flows.

In addition to Ranfurly remaining on a boil water notice and water restrictions, the Central Otago District Council (CODC) has the following advice for the rest of the Māniatoto and Omakau /Ophir today (Monday February 13).

There is a reduction in flows in the Sowburn river which provides the water for Patearoa.

Also, there is a significant ongoing decrease in the Manuherikia River flows and a drop in flows into the Naseby water treatment plant.

There is a high demand for water supplies.

A MetService thunderstorm warning issued earlier today has since been withdrawn and with it the chance of much needed rain.

CODC is asking everyone to reduce water usage to avoid further restrictions.

  • Only operate sprinkler systems between 8pm and 8am for no more than 30 minutes in one spot, watering should be avoided if possible.
  • Keep showers to four minutes or less
  • Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth
  • Only run the washing machine and dishwasher when you have full loads.

Ranfurly is still on a boil water notice and water restrictions - essential use only.
