Folk musician and waste warrior Anna van Riel is bringing her Waste Free Wanda show to Central schools.

The Lake Hāwea musician is performing on six dates April 28, 29 and 30 and May 1, 2 and 5 with her audience consisting of local primary schools and a kindergarten.

The Waste Free Wanda show was created to support Anna’s environmental work and to encourage young people to participate in the arts.

Anna described the show as an interactive rock opera for children and as being inspired by 1980s music.

The show’s messages are focused on sustainability, refusing single use items, reducing the amount of waste going to landfill, reusing items, recycling, rehoming, and composting.

The April tour will visit Miller’s Flat School, Roxburgh Area School, St Gerard’s School, Alexandra Primary, The Terrace School, Clyde School, Goldfields Primary, Maniototo Area School, Omakau and Poolburn Schools, Cromwell Primary, Tarras School and Cromwell Kindergarten.
