Molyneux Cricket club (MCC) needs teams to enter for a six a side adults’ ‘Summer Smash’ tournament.
MCC treasurer Adrian Morgan said cricket was “growing massively” and the fun format was back after a hiatus of a few years due to resourcing challenges and the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It’s open to anyone; it’s primarily adults and social, [but we’re welcoming] male or female, beginners, mates, dads and [teenage sons or daughters]... or teams from work places.
“Three years ago we had six teams enter…but we can have up to ten, and there is still room,” Adrian said.
“It’s a fun way to make the most of the long twilights at this time of year.”
MCC will use entry fees to support junior cricket in Central.
“Funds will go towards holding local tournaments and more things for our junior cricketers.”
MCC has six junior teams playing on Saturday, a skills programme for youngsters and a popular girls’ programme.
“Last time girls’ smash was on we had 80 girls take part.”
Summer Smash 12-over games are at Pioneer Park in Alexandra on Monday nights (6 -8pm) from February 20 for six weeks.
