Alexandra District Parents Centre’s annual great duck race was a fast flowing success on Saturday, raising $3500 for family focused activities.
The weather was mild as 800 ducks floated down the Manuherikia River to the finish line in under 25 minutes.
Parents centre president Ash Leslie said the day turned out to be a great one although the ducks were a bit slower than in 2023 when they took about 13 minutes.
A few escapees were retrieved thanks to the kayakers and the Alexandra Volunteer Fire Brigade.

The spectators cheered their ducks down the river and there were lots of happy faces at prize giving.
The money raised from the event goes towards whānau packs for new babies, music and movement sessions, parents centre family events and a car seat hire programme.
First place was Nicola Rae, second Claire Scherp, third Daniel Hughes and last duck went to Coll MacCormick.
Approximately 30 other spot prizes including adventure tourism experiences, bar and restaurant vouchers and other local goodies went to people with lucky numbered ducks.

Organisers thanked those who entered ducks as well as sponsors and helpers including master of ceremonies Martin McPherson, Richard Davidson for sound control, Scott Liddell for setting up the boom and local food vendors.
This year' s duck race was delayed by a week from the November 2 date due to the Manuherikia flow rate being too high.
Alexandra Districts Parents Centre is run by community volunteers and along with support services for families, they also bring knowledgeable speakers for sessions and arrange social family friendly events.
