Central Otago REAP SuperSkills, Mums 4 Mums Alexandra and the Alexandra Baptist Church are supporting a toy swap to help Central families out as Christmas nears.
Vincent Community Board chairman and father Jayden Cromb said it was great to see this initiative being picked up by the community.
“Times are tough and this is a great opportunity to take the financial stress out of Christmas, while supporting others. So please get involved.”
To contribute to the swap residents can drop off good quality clean used toys, bikes, books or games on November 19-21 between 9am and 1pm to Alexandra Baptist Church on Gregg St.
Then anyone can attend and collect a free gift for a child, on November 21, 5pm to 7pm and November 22, 11am to 2pm.
SuperSkills representative and toy swap organiser Ann Conder said volunteers were needed to help to receive the goods and then to help organise and sort gifts for the two sessions.
“If you can help for an hour or two we’d love to hear from you.
“Any books that don’t go we’ll pass on to the Rotary book sale, so nothing will be wasted.”

Last year’s toy swap also held at the Baptist Church was a success and it meant many toys in good condition, could stay out of landfill and be enjoyed by other tamariki in Central.
