Industrial action in support of collective agreement negotiations for teachers continues to impact local students from today (Tuesday May 9).
Dunstan High School (DHS) and Cromwell College (CC) are closed today and no normal classes are running.
‘Rostering home’ (when a different year level of students are not taught on certain days) is also back and it commences on Thursday with year 11 DHS students staying home.
New Zealand Post Primary Teachers Association (PPTA) area school members and NZ EI Te Riu Roa area school teachers’ industrial action coincides this week.
Action includes a relief teacher work ban, a ban on meeting outside school hours, and rolling strikes from today.
NZEI Te Riu Roa president Mark Potter said that members are sending a message to the government that they need to do more to ensure teaching remains a valued profession.
Central families with school age children are advised to stay up to date with school information as action could be cancelled or altered depending on negotiation progress.
The pay negotiations between the teachers’ unions and the Ministry of Education have been going on for almost a year so far.
