Central residents at higher elevations woke to snow this morning, and more could be falling today, as the MetService heavy snow watch is in place until 2pm (Wednesday August 2).
The heavy snow warning also covers Queenstown Lakes and inland parts of Dunedin.

Sleety showers and snow on the surrounding hills are due to ease this afternoon.
Fresh southerwesterlies are making the temperature feel cold, at 9am in Alexandra it was 1.5’C but feels like -3’C, with four layers recommended.

Road snowfall warnings are in place for the Lindis Pass and the Crown Range Rd. Snow is falling and settling at Moa Flat. Ploughing and gritting is underway.
There is snow around the Poolburn Hill, Oturehua, and Naseby areas, and caution is advised on roads and footpaths.
