Clyde teenager Bridey Sangster’s (14) ice skating skills have scooped her a silver medal at the ice skating nationals.
The New Zealand Ice Figure Skating Nationals were held at Alpine Ice Sports Centre in Christchurch on October 17 to 20.
Bridey also qualified for the New Zealand development squad for another year, and was re-selected for the New Zealand international team.
She finished close behind Centaurus Ice Skating Club’s (Christchurch) skater Yuhuan Ding who scored 31.60 points.
Bridey was awarded 30.34 points in the intermediate novice girls free skating category.

Bridey said she was ''really stoked'' to bring home a silver medal considering the couple of mistakes she made on the ice.
She didn’t have her best skate struggling with a landing and having a fall but managed to execute the rest of her solo faultlessly.
Mum Tania Sangster said it’s been a big year for her daughter away from home, studying and training in Dunedin.
“She’s achieved her biggest dream which was to wear the fern and represent New Zealand which she did in Perth back in September.”
Tania said Bridey was enjoying being at home in Alexandra now, and has no commitments to competitions currently.
Bridey’s skating career began at four at the public sessions at IceInline, then she joined AISC completing the Kiwiskate programme and becoming a competitive figure skater.
Figure skating is a minority sport in New Zealand with about 300 people across the motu (country) competing in singles, pairs, ice dancing and synchronised skating.
