An Alexandra health coach is encouraging locals to join a new walking group called ‘Scrambled Legs’.
Health coach Hiwaiterangi said it's less about exercise and more about connecting to the environment as the walks will be along the river.
“Young mums, those with diabetes or long term health conditions, or with a low mood… it's open to anyone who wants to connect.”
The group meets in HealthCentral’s car park on Thursday mornings at 10am. The purpose is to enjoy a gentle walk and meet new friends.
At the end of each walk there will be a morning tea and a guest speaker such as a specialist nurse or a pharmacist.
The first walk is Thursday February 2. For more information contact Hiwaiterangi on 027 218 8496.
Walking is the most popular sport and recreation activity among New Zealand adults.
Research proves regular walking can help to reduce the risk of certain health-related conditions, such as obesity, type two diabetes, heart disease, stroke and certain cancers.
