A flock of more than 720 yellow rubber duckies will be hurled off the Little Valley bridge on Saturday, November 4, to raise funds for the not-for-profit Alexandra Parents Centre (APC).
The event, which is the sixth annual ‘Great Duck Race’, will raise money to keep services running for local families, including car seats for community hire, subsidised swimming lessons, music and movement, whanau packs for new mums and babies, first aid, family train ride days and an Easter hunt.
APC event coordinator Caitlyn Thomson said everyone was welcome to bring a blanket, a picnic morning tea and enjoy the race.
“You’ll want to get there around 9.45am for a good viewing spot. It’s always lots of fun.”
The ducks race from under the bridge on Little Valley Rd at 10am and finish at the Linger and Die reserve.
It costs $5 to buy a duck from Four Square in either Alexandra or Clyde, and each entrant will be in the chance to win cash prizes donated by sponsors and spot prizes.

First prize is $500 (sponsored by Summit Contracting), second is $300 (Monteiths Alexandra) and third is $150 (JAES Central Otago Cleaning).
APC is run by a local committee of 10 volunteers and more are always welcome. Email [email protected] for information.
