One person is seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash between a car and a motorbike near St Bathans just before midday.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Blair Walkins said two FENZ crews from Omakau and two from Ranfurly attended, and State Highway 85 remains closed with detours in place.

The crash happened at the intersection of Wedderburn-Becks Rd and St Bathans Loop Rd about 11.40am, and the Otago Rescue Helicopter was also called.

Blair said nobody was trapped in the vehicle and one fire crew remained on the scene.

Detour route
for westbound traffic, turn left onto Ida Valley-Omakau Road, continue along Ida Valley-Omakau Road, then turn left back onto SH85. Reverse for eastbound.
