Sewage flowed across a Cromwell street on Saturday, with residents reporting seeing toilet paper in drains and experiencing foul smells.
Video shared on social media showed pools of dirty water running down storm water drains on Mead Avenue. The liquid also flowed across the roadway where cars and bicycles had been passing through.
Tim Muller who lives a few blocks away said he notified the Central Otago District Council about the issue around 8.30pm on Saturday evening. He said it appeared to have been remedied when he passed by at 4pm on Sunday.
A liquid waste removal truck had returned to work in Mead Avenue on Monday morning. Meanwhile two of the trucks and a digger were clearing a site at the southern boundary of the Pisa Moorings residential subdivision on Sunday afternoon.
Heavy rain fell in the area over the weekend but it is unclear if this caused the issue.

The Central Otago District Council advised late yesterday afternoon that they were still working with contractors on the issue and were not able to give an update by The Central App’s deadline.
