Power out across wider Omakau area this morning

An unplanned power outage struck the wider Omakau area at 7.30am today.

Aurora Energy customer and engagement manager Lisa Gloag said the outage was caused by a trip at the zone substation that feeds the area.

"We will need to do some testing to make sure it's safe before re-energising and anticipate the power should be restored by 1pm.

"We managed to get some customers on for a short time, but had to reduce this to ensure the integrity of the network.

"If there is any change to the 1pm timeframe we will let you know. Thank you for your patience while we work to get your power restored."

Aurora Energy's website notes the following areas were affected: Becks, Chatto Creek, Drybread Huddleston Rd, Ida Valley, Lauder Back Rd, Lauder, Matakanui, Moa Creek, Mouter, Omakau Township, Ophir, Poolburn, St Bathans and surrounding areas.

Residents are reminded to please keep clear of fallen power lines or damaged electrical equipment and treat them as live at all times.
