Three Otago Volts cricketers spent time coaching local kids in the nets at Molyneux Park on Sunday afternoon (March 12) thanks to Breen’s sponsorship of Otago Cricket.
Otago Volts players who attended were left handed batsman Max Chu, bowler Jake Gibson and all rounder Dean Foxcroft.
The next generation of cricketers got to meet Otago Volts players and hone their skills prior to the Otago versus Auckland game in Alexandra
The children were representatives of the local division one cricket team, kids of Breen staff, and from the Presbyterian Support Otago’s (PSO) Family Works Buddy Programme.
The Buddy Programme has been running for 30 years and is all about boosting a child’s life with fun, friendship, encouragement and positive attitudes.
PSO family whānau support worker Pippa Wellstead said the children had a fantastic day and absolutely loved meeting their heroes.
Pippa said an adult buddy who works at Breen got the Buddy Programme involved and it was a great and kind initiative.
More volunteers are needed to help with young buddies for two hours a week.
For more information see the Buddy Programme website or email Pippa at [email protected].
