A unique opportunity has arisen for an artist, woodworker or creative person in Naseby Domain.
A Central Otago District Council (CODC) arborist took down a tree in Naseby Domain for safety reasons last week.
The tree had a large weeping canker on the underside of the main limb, and it failed a safety assessment.
A member of the public suggested turning the tree stump into a seat or a sculpture, and the CODC Parks team has left a two metre high stump on site as a potential material for a piece of art.
A CODC spokesperson said there was some interest and excitement in the community to do something creative with the tree stump but as yet the parks team has not received any proposals.

A willow tree behind the CODC offices on Dunorling St has also recently been removed due to damage and disease.
This work is part of the trees targeted for removal following the recent arborist survey of about 7000 of the district's trees.
