It’s a case of the more the merrier when the Manuherekia Valleys Charitable Trust gathers for its monthly meetings.

The trust welcomes more people to get involved as it works towards construction of a purpose-built community hub on the Omakau Recreation Reserve.

A long list of community groups have expressed interest in making the facility their home once completed, but only a select few are represented at the meetings.

Trust chair Andrew Paterson welcomed more people to attend the meetings, and get involved in the project.

“We’re going to have an amazing community asset, so come and help us make it happen.”

The project was estimated to cost about $5.2 million, with $1.7M already secured, thanks to the Central Otago District Council and the Bob Turnbull Trust, which had given a grant of $600,000.

The Matakanui Combined Rugby Football Club has also pledged $80,000 to the project.

A golf fundraiser, hosted in Omakau in the new year, added $7000 to its coffers, which the trust will increase further when it hosts another tournament in the next few months.

The group’s next meeting will take place at the Omakau pavilion on Wednesday, March 27, at 6pm.

To provide financial support to the project, people can visit the trust’s Give a Little page.
