The Central Otago District Council (CODC) has now lifted the do not consume notice for Roxburgh residents.

“We are now lifting the do not consume water notice for Roxburgh residents,” a CODC spokesperson says.

“Please flush a tap within your property for approx. 1-2 minutes before you start drinking water again.

“Thanks for your support to spread the message this morning while we worked hard to make sure we understood what was going on to resolve the issue quickly.”

Earlier:

The Central Otago District Council (CODC) earlier issued a do not consume notice on drinking water in Roxburgh.

Sensors were triggered just before 8am this morning up at the reservoir and council took a precautionary approach to the problem.

“At this stage we believe the upgrades currently being done on the culvert at Pumphouse Creek triggered a slug of chlorine to enter the reservoir that supplies water to Roxburgh," a council spokesperson said.
