Locals may want to hit the hay early tomorrow night, as the Mt Benger A&P Show on Saturday (February 18) features showjumping, exhibits, agrisports and a talk from rally car driver Hayden Paddon, all at a new-look venue.
Hayden will open the show at midday, but action starts at 8.30am with horse and pony classes, children's entertainment (face painting, a bouncy castle, merry go round) and a pet parade.
Show president James Hill said the organisers were pumped to be hosting the 79th show after having to cancel last year due to Covid-19 restrictions.
“A massive thank you [to]... our dedicated committee…and also the awesome work that the trotting club members have put into our new shed,” James said.
The shed, built in partnership with the Roxburgh Trotting Club, will be used for the ringside lounge, bar and secretary’s office; and has views of the horse arena.
The equestrian area has been levelled and regrassed in the past year.
Showjumping is at 11.30am (north ring), 1.30pm (south ring) and novelty class at 5pm
James thanked sponsors for their support enabling organisers to offer free entertainment at the show.
Along with the big dig contest, free rides on Bucky the mechanical bull run from 1-5pm with prizes for various categories.
The Teviot Valley Young Farmers’ afternoon agrisports promises lots of fun. In the past they’ve had wood-chopping, a shearing machine, and apple bobbing.
Tickets are available at the Roxburgh Racecourse gate: $10 for adults and children 15 years and under are free.
