Central Otago District mayor Tim Cadogan sought reassurance at the first council meeting of the year that staff were on track to meet the three waters handover deadline of June 30, 2024.
Council will transfer the delivery of three waters services to a new water services entity on July 1, 2024, with $46.5M remaining of the 2021-2024 Long Term Plan (LTP) budget to spend.
As a result there’s pressure on council staff and contractors to complete projects on time.
If any budgeted capital in the LTP remains unspent, it will transfer to the new three waters entity.
With fewer than 18 months remaining, Tim asked if already stretched staff were up to meeting the target date.
After the meeting, the mayor told the Central App he had been reassured the organisation was up to completing water-related projects ahead of the transition.
