Alexandra Rotary Club’s Annual Charity Book Sale is over for another year, this time raising $31,000.
The four-day-long event, which took place at the Alexandra Community Centre on January 1 to 4, is a popular new year tradition for many people, including some who enjoy holidaying in the area.
Co-organiser and past president Kevin MacKenzie said while books made up a large portion of items on offer, puzzles, magazines, CDs and DVDs were also popular.
This year about 60 people were waiting for the doors to open on day one, and many others flowed in throughout the event, proving just how popular it is.
Of the money raised, a portion of it will go to the Otago Southland Rescue Helicopter Trust, making it the third year the trust has benefited.
Overall, the event has raised more than $600,000 for various groups throughout its 36 year history.
The hard working committee will now take a well deserved break and will start sorting items for next year’s event over Labour Weekend.
“From start up to clean up, it’s a big job,” Kevin said.
