Photo: SuppliedReconstruction of State Highway 8 at Stableburn, south of Millers Flat, will start today (Tuesday October 28), causing some delays for road users over the next few months.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said work on the 3.1 km stretch of State Highway 8 will involve initial earthworks and drainage improvements, followed by four consecutive stages of road reconstruction.
This is to minimise inconvenience and delays for motorists and effectively manage traffic flow throughout the project.
The construction activities will take place on weekdays between 7am and 6pm, with a full holiday break from December 19 to January 12, 2026, during which no work will be conducted.
When work is underway, traffic will be managed through a single lane and road users can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
It is expected all works will be completed by April next year.
The work is weather dependent. If significant changes are required to the schedule, NZTA will advise of this.
“We thank people for their patience and understanding as this important work is carried out, NZTA said.
