Heavy snow and rain have swept across Central Otago overnight, causing road closures and flood warnings.

Lindis Pass closed overnight with heavy snow, and State Highway 85 between Omakau and Kyeburn is closed due to heavy snow and minor flooding. Danseys Pass Road is also closed from the gates past the Danseys Pass Hotel.

The Manuherikia and Maniototo regions face thick snow and some flooding. Drivers are urged to avoid travel unless essential and to take care if they must head out.

Alexandra to Raes Junction experienced wet roads with five degrees on the thermometer.

Roxburgh, Cromwell and Alexandra areas are reporting wet roads and above freezing temperatures, but isolated flooding is possible in low lying areas.

South of Queenstown, temperatures hovered at one degree with persistent rain. Snow fell in the Gibbston Valley, while sleet and one degree conditions were reported on State Highway 6 towards Haast.
