Fashion show with a difference sparks interestThe models ‘thoroughly loved’ their time on the catwalk.

A fashion show with a difference took place at Cromwell’s Golden View Lifestyle Village recently, with models aged between 70 and 90 strutting the catwalk.

Golden View manager Jo Shepherd told the Central App the fashion show was so popular it will become a regular feature at the village.

A village resident came up with the idea of showcasing clothing from local retailers, and the idea morphed into a fashion show at the village lodge modelled by residents.

Both audience and models “thoroughly loved it”, Jo said.

“There was a lot of banter about them flying in from Milan, people were cheering and laughing.

“We had a lot of great feedback.”

Three local retailers - Envisage, ChristinZ, and Alex Campbell’s Menswear - provided clothing and commentary for the 30 minute show on Tuesday May 23.

The models (three men and five women) included 90-year-old Sheila Young, a new resident of the village.

They had to make some quick changes in order to showcase more than 30 outfits.

Residents of the Golden View Care Facility also came along to watch the models strut their stuff.

“Lots of people made purchases,” Jo said, adding the village would look at including more retailers at the next event.
