A Cromwell man who drove after consuming alcohol with two young children in the back of his vehicle, was stopped by police driving just 28km/hr.

Constable Scott Vollweiler said the incident happened on Saturday morning at 1.30am, and the driver had an excess breath alcohol level of 842mcg.

Const Vollweiler said he found it quite disturbing that the driver would risk the lives of the young children, even if he was driving very slow.

Earlier last week a Dunedin man was charged with careless driving after a crash with another vehicle in the Cromwell Gorge.

Once he was brought into the station, officers then realised he had also been driving while suspended.

Police had no issues after the Maniototo Rodeo in the weekend, with just a few motorists ticketed for various offences.

Following on from last week's police report, nobody has come forward with any information regarding the vandalism of Alexandra's public toilets during late December and January.

Const Vollweiler said luckily the incidents have since stopped, but they would still like to hear from anyone who has information about the vandalism, which included hand basins ripped off walls and smashed.

There were no security cameras in any of the public toilets and police relied on footage from surrounding businesses that was often not reliable.
