Cromwell teen named in U15 football squad Cromwell’s Theo Laws (13) will join 29 other U15 Southern soccer players at a development camp next week

Four up and coming Central Lakes soccer players have been selected for the Under 15 (U15) talent camp to be held in Dunedin during the school holidays.

The players will be coached by New Zealand Under-17 coach Martin Bullock for two days at Logan Park on July 13 and 14.

Cromwell’s Theo Laws (13) will join two Wānaka based players Jacob Fielding (14), Harry Oxley (14) and Queenstown’s Will Pope (14) at the camp.

The U15 Football South development league includes teams from Dunedin, South Canterbury, Southland and Queenstown and Wānaka. This year players from Alexandra and Cromwell travelled to either of the Lakes’ clubs to play in the development league.

Thirty of the most talented players from the U15 league have been selected to attend the Dunedin camp. As well as the four Central players, 18 players will attend from Dunedin clubs, four each from South Canterbury and Southland.

For those involved in other grades of junior football (aged 4 -17) in Central, this coming weekend is the last round for the 2022 season. Games on July 10 will be at Molyneux Park in Alexandra, kicking off at 9am.

In 2022, Alexandra United Football Club entered two girls only teams in their respective age groups, following the success of the Football South introductory soccer sisters programme.

For the past 11 Sundays many families have travelled to a different venue each week (either Wānaka, Cromwell, Queenstown and Alexandra) to represent the four main clubs.
