The Cromwell-Clyde Rd (SH8) remains closed following a fatal crash this morning.
Police have confirmed one person died at the scene of the three-vehicle crash involving two trucks and a car on the Cromwell-Clyde Rd at about 6.35am.
One of the truck drivers sustained a minor injury and was assessed at the scene.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said at this stage, SH8 is likely to be closed all morning, between Clyde and Cromwell.
NZTA said motorists north of Cromwell could take the Lindis Pass, via Omarama and Tarras to get to Wānaka and Queenstown, but alternatively people should delay travelling until later today if possible.
Police do not recommend a detour through Hawksburn Rd from Clyde to Bannockburn as it is narrow, and unsuitable for 2WD vehicles.
