Cromwell’s rugby side went through the gorge, optimistic they could reverse last year's final result against a resurgent Wakatipu. 

But it was not to be.

Wakatipu lifted themselves from the lower rungs of the competition ladder with their win last weekend over Maniototo in Ranfurly, and they continued that winning form convincingly, putting away their old rivals by 23 points.

Matakanui were embarrassed by Alexandra at Molyneux Park in what the Central App predicted would be a competitive clash between neighbouring unions. 

It turns out we couldn’t have been more wrong as the Armadillos roasted the Mudfish 78 to 12.

Maniototo were denied their long-awaited first win of the season with a 26 - 26 draw to Arrowtown.
