More than 100 people attended Bislama Language Week celebrations coinciding with 44 years of independence for Vanuatu on Sunday in Central.
Nivans (people from Vanuatu), many who are a part of the recognised seasonal employee (RSE) workforce across Central including Roxburgh, Ettrick, Cromwell and Alexandra attended the cultural event fostering a sense of connection and belonging.
The Vanuatu flag adorned cakes and cupcakes at the celebration.
Viticultura pastoral care manager and organiser Jo Ennion said it was a fantastic event and everyone enjoyed the shared food and music.
Pasifika Central Otago representative Kusitina Colailago speaks at the event.
It was the second year of a two-year trial of Bislama Language Week in Central by the Ministry of Pacific Peoples.
From October through to November there will be about 400 Nivans arriving in Central for the following seven months' of work in horticulture and viticulture.
