The Central Otago District Council (CODC), at its monthly meeting last week, approved unbudgeted expenditure of $30,000 to create a gravel vehicle accessway for hangar sites at Cromwell Aerodrome.
In presenting her report to the council, CODC property manager Tara Bates said the cost had not been budgeted for in this financial year, but there was unbudgeted income from hangar site rentals available to fund the $30,000.
She said there were 23 hangar sites at the aerodrome, of which 14 had been built, with the remaining nine expected next year.
A dirt track being used by both hangar users and construction workers had become inaccessible for vehicles after heavy rainfalls, making it necessary to drive around the front of the hangars, which should be kept clear for taxiing aircraft.
Complaints had been received, Tara said.
“The cost was going to be put in the long-term plan but, because of the complaints and the deterioration of the track, it is proposed we spend the money now,” Tara said.
“Four or five” hangar rentals that were unbudgeted would help fund the $30,000, she said.
The request was approved unanimously.
