Any future complaints at Clyde Holiday Park will be dealt with through a new process, with those levelled at management now required to be self-reported to the Central Otago District Council.

The popular council-owned campsite was the subject of a series of complaints from visitors last year, many alleging they, and guests visiting them at the facility, were being harangued by management.

The Central App has viewed numerous emails from campers detailing arguments and alleged rudeness directed to themselves and camp visitors by manager Gary Ryan.

Mr Ryan earlier denied the allegations, one of which sparked a police enquiry.

A NZ Police media spokesperson confirmed yesterday that the enquiry was ongoing.

The CODC entered into a 10-year commercial lease for the operation of the camp in 2019.

In response to complaints over summer, CODC have assisted Mr Ryan and wife Roslyn in creating a formal complaints policy, which is due for approval by the Vincent Community Board next week.

The Central App understands board members contacted disgruntled campers directly to discuss their issues earlier this year.

A set of procedures detailing how any issues arising are dealt with has been set out, as well as a new requirement that the couple must inform council of any complaints directed at themselves.

“In the event that a complaint relates directly to the conduct of the manager of the Clyde Holiday Park then the manager must advise the council of the complaint.

"Clyde Holiday Park Limited must notify the council of the existence of the complaint upon receipt and must set out the process that it intends to follow in order to address the complaint,” the report states.

Guest night figures must be provided to council at least annually.

Those pertaining to the past two years supplied to council were 4600 adults and 590 children from November of the 2019/2020 season and 6037 adults and 712 children during 2020/2021.
